Mid-Air Body Positioning for Motocross Jumps at Motofy Fest

The moment your wheels leave the dirt, your bike stops responding to throttle and brake the way it does on the ground. Mid-air body positioning is what keeps your motocross machine balanced between takeoff and landing, and it is a skill every rider at Motofy Fest needs to master before hitting the jumps on 24, 25 and 26 January 2027.

As you crest the jump face, your body should already be centered over the bike. Knees gripping the tank, elbows bent and loose, head forward. If you are too far back, the front end climbs and you risk looping out. Too far forward and the nose dives hard into the landing transition. Your grip on the handlebars should be firm but not locked—rigid arms transfer every twitch into unwanted pitch or yaw.

Once airborne, small movements have big effects. If the rear end starts to drop, push the handlebars forward slightly to bring the nose up. If the front wheel rises too high, pull back gently and let your body weight shift toward the tank. These corrections happen in fractions of a second, so your muscle memory needs to be sharp. Practice on smaller tabletops before you commit to the longer doubles on the Motofy Arena dirt track.

Your legs do more than grip. Extending them slightly in mid-air preloads your suspension for landing, absorbing the first shock before the forks and shock do their job. Keep your eyes locked on the landing zone, not the lip you just left. Reading the transition while you are still in the air gives you the split second you need to adjust your body before touchdown.

Motocross is three-dimensional racing. The rider who controls the air controls the lap time. Whether you are entering the dirt bike category or testing yourself on an ATV, mid-air technique separates smooth flow from hard crashes. After the dust settles on race day, the automobile expo and live concert keep the energy alive under the floodlights.
