Holeshot Technique for Dirt Track Racing | Motofy Fest
The holeshot—reaching the first corner ahead of the pack—can decide your entire dirt race before the second lap even starts. At Motofy Fest on 24, 25 and 26 January 2027, riders who nail the launch and first-corner position carry momentum, clean air and the psychological advantage that keeps them in front.
Your holeshot starts on the gate. Position your front wheel as close to the tape as the marshal allows, and weight the pegs with your body slightly forward. When the gate drops, release the clutch in the friction zone while feeding throttle smoothly—dump it and the rear spins in the dirt, slipping you backward. Stand tall on the pegs to let the suspension work and keep the front wheel weighted enough to track straight through ruts and loose soil.
Now the pack funnels toward Turn One. Scan your line two bike-lengths ahead: inside is shortest but often choked with traffic, outside is longer but can carry more speed if the berm is fresh. Commit to one line early—changing mid-braking costs traction and opens the door for a pass. Brake in a straight line before you tip in, then roll throttle as you carve the berm to maintain drive.
If you are mid-pack, look for gaps opening on the outside or late-braking opportunities on the inside, but never dive so deep that you wash the front. If you are leading, protect the inside and let your corner speed do the talking.
Practice your starts. Set up mock gates at Motofy Arena in Jagatpura, Jaipur, drill your clutch release and braking points, and visualize the funnel before you see it on race day. The rider who owns the holeshot owns the dirt—and the roar of the crowd under the floodlights.
